Mackenzie began piano lessons in elementary school and started playing percussion with the school band in junior high. She studied Music Composition and Percussion at Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego where she also continued her piano studies, tutored in music theory, played keyboard with worship bands, and accompanied various campus groups on drums and percussion. She continued her education at the University of Missouri, Kansas City where she received a Master of Music degree in Composition. During her time at UMKC she worked as a “Composers in the Schools” Fellow and Graduate Teaching Assistant for Music Theory. Upon graduation Mackenzie spend almost two years teaching preschool music before opening up her own music studio. Because of her experience working with preschoolers, Mackenzie specializes in lessons for young children.
Teaching piano lessons enables Mackenzie to stay home with her young daughter during the day and to work part-time as the music director for the Southwood Church of the Nazarene.
